Bustling (Im)Mobility: Socio-spatial Negotiations in Delhi's Bus Terminals

Arundhathi is currently an Assistant Professor at the Jindal School of Journalism and Communication, O. P. Jindal Global University, Sonipat, India. She completed her MPhil and PhD from the Advanced Centre for Women’s Studies, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, India. Arundhathi’s MPhil thesis documented women train drivers’ experiences of negotiating with workplace patriarchy in the Indian Railways. Her PhD thesis focused on the experiences of women passengers’ use of the Mumbai local trains, particularly the ladies’ compartments. Exploring the interconnections between gender and mobility, Arundhathi has published the findings from her MPhil and PhD in the form of journal articles and book chapters.
As a USF International Fellow, Arundhathi will spend six months at the University of the West of England, Bristol, under the mentorship of Dr. William Clayton. Her project, titled ‘Bustling (Im)Mobility: Socio-spatial Negotiations in Delhi’s Bus Terminals,’ focuses on interstitial spaces/in-between spaces of contemporary Delhi’s bus terminals and how these immobile infrastructures influence users’ experiences of urban mobility.
