Feminising Urban Struggles

The online seminar can be watched live at the YouTube channel of IEAUSP.

This international online seminar initiates an Urban Studies Foundation-funded Seminar Series exploring the urban struggles of marginalised women in transforming their peripheral territories in different contexts of the Global South, particularly, Southern Africa and Latin America.A three-day virtual event from 6 to 8 November (2023) will bring together over one hundred scholars and three keynote speakers to debate critical feminist urban research and explore new epistemologies at the intersection of gender, women’s urban struggles, and the production of peripheral territories.

Following the virtual seminar there will be three face to face seminars in São Paulo (March 2024), as well as Johannesburg and Dar es Salaam (April 2024). More information can be found at https://www.wits.ac.za/cubes/events/ (English) and http://www.labcidade.fau.usp.br/lutas-urbanas-feministas/ (Portuguese).

"The USF Fellowship supported me in many ways, especially by providing time to write and publish journal articles in a department aligned with my research interests. As an early career interdisciplinary scholar working on public transport, this period away from teaching and admin allowed me to focus and grow. Being based at the Centre for Transport & Society at UWE, Bristol, was particularly helpful — not only for mentoring, but also for building new networks with UK-based scholars and other USF Fellows. These connections will undoubtedly foster future collaborations."
