Dr Aleksandra Dordevic

Aleksandra Dordevic is a Teaching assistant at the Department of Urbanism at University of Belgrade in the Faculty of Architecture. She holds Ph.D. in Architecture and Urbanism with the topic ‘Good in planning: Model of value judgement in city development practice’; two MSc degrees in Architecture and Integrated Urbanism; and BSc in Architecture. Her research interests include ethics in planning, urban morphology, the relationship between heritage and urbanism in the domain of urban form, urban management and education. She participates in scientific projects of the national Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development, and international projects (HERSUS, EcoBuilt, EUROPE READR, and ‘Plot by plot urbanism’ with an ISUF grant). Aleksandra strives to relate education, research and practice and has published articles in reputable urban studies and planning journals such as European Planning Studies and Urban Morphology.

She is an active member of the academic community who advocates for professional responsibility and stronger role of the academics in society. In this light, she is one of the authors of initiatives ‘New housing models for people threatened by the floods’ (2014) and ‘Covid-19 Challenges: Architecture of pandemics’ (2020). Her PhD and proposed research within the USF fellowship are also developed in the same value framework since the good in the built environment is perceived as an acute challenge in today unjust world.

In the scientific and professional community, she is a member of the organization International Seminar of Urban Form, where she served as a co-chair at the recently organized 30th ISUF conference titled Praxis of Urban morphology, held in Belgrade from 3rd to 9th of September 2023. As an expert in the field and holder of the 2022 Grand Prix, Aleksandra is part of the 2023 Jury at the 32nd International Urban Planner Exhibition in Serbia.

As a USF International Fellow, Dr Aleksandra Dordevic will spend three months working with Vítor Manuel Araújo de Oliveira at the University of Porto – Faculty of Engineering – Research Centre for Territory, Transports and Environment (CITTA – Centro de Investigação do Território Transportes e Ambiente).
